The Lifesaving Society is the Canadian governing body for competitive lifesaving - a sport recognized by the International Olympic Committee and the Commonwealth Games Federation. Competitive lifesaving is unique because it is the only sport in which skills are learned for humanitarian purposes, and only then applied to competition. As the Canadian sport governing body for lifesaving, the Society promotes healthy living through the creation of lifesaving clubs within Canadian communities. Competition, staff training, and masters are a few of the opportunities to attract new participants to lifesaving programs, to showcase Canada’s lifeguards, and to promote public awareness of our drowning and water-related injury prevention aims. The Lifesaving Society endorsed competition as early as the 1930s and has organized lifeguard competitions since the late 1960s. The first Canadian Lifeguard Championship was held in Winnipeg in 1977. The Society hosted the World Lifesaving Championships in Vancouver at Rescue ‘86. Alberta hosted the 2009 RLSS Commonwealth Lifesaving Championships. Provincial and national championships showcase the professionalism of our lifesaving athletes. National lifesaving teams represent Canada at international competitions.Lifesaving Sport clubs have a flexible delivery model able to accommodate facility needs and community engagement at any level. Club focus may range from recreational participation, achievement of certification, or preparing performance athletes for national and international competition. Participants in Lifesaving Sport may be of any age but it is recommended that they are able to complete the Lifesaving Society Swim Test to participate.Lifesaving Sport Clubs are for participants of all ages and abilities who want to stay healthy and active. It provides a social atmosphere while offering continued training opportunities. This program encourages club members to participate for life through long-term athlete development and through different pathways such as lifesaving sport competition. • Yoga for Golfers Swing into Spring

Program includes:TPI "Big Twelve" Movement ScreenTPI Tailored 15-minute stretch routine (based on the results of the screen)YFG sessionsClasses are suitable for all levels of fitness and no yoga experience is necessary.Intro Par session: This Yoga for Golfers® session is an excellent whole body stretch, and focuses on all the major muscle groups used in the golf swing. It's all in the hips: This Yoga for Golfers® session focuses on the lower body, in particular the hips, glutes, and hamstrings. If you, like 60% of other golfers, suffer from lower back pain it could be due to tight hamstrings! This class will open the hips allowing for greater hip turn and more efficient ball striking as you are better able to turn and transfer your weight, while maintaining your balance and power.Core and Balance: This Yoga for Golfers® session focuses on the muscles in the core and balance helping you achieve a more consistent, effective, and repeatable golf swing.Birdie Session: This Yoga for Golfers® session is a little more challenging than the Par Session, but still very accessible for all levels of fitness. Here build on the Core and Balance session and use yoga postures to create greater separation between the upper and lower body, thereby enabling more thoracic rotation, which means faster club head speed and more distance off the tee!Length and Strength: This Yoga for Golfers® session uses poses that will strengthen the muscles used in the golf swing and then we hold a more traditional Yin style pose to deepen the stretch, leaving you feeling relaxed and ready to hit the links!Eagle Session: This Yoga for Golfers® session is a little more challenging, and builds on the gains in strength, mobility, and flexibility from the Par and Birdie Sessions. It focuses on all the major muscle groups used in the golf swing, but the challenge lies in the balance and endurance poses.

    • Youth on Weights

Does your child or teen want to build strength and stamina? Pediatricians and youth specializing fitness trainers say it is both safe and beneficial to introduce young people to supervised, progressive weight training.Weight training is appropriate once a child can maintain balance and postural control and are able to listen and follow directions. This is usually around age 8 but it depends on your child's maturity level.Although children under 10 years may develop strength from training with weights, adolescents in the range of 10 to 15 years are usually the group who are the most interested. Your child should also want to do this activity and be prepared to train. Strength training for children is not weightlifting, powerlifting, or bodybuilding in their purest forms, which are aimed at competition. There are a few conditions where weight training is not recommended, including for children with uncontrolled high blood pressure, seizure disorders, or those who have undergone chemotherapy. Please email our fitness experts if you are unsure or if you have questions. This program is driven by one of our personal training fitness experts and is held in our Rocky Mountain Strength Studio. Please come prepared with comfortable clothing, water bottle and clean indoor running shoes (no boots, open toes, or crocs)
